To be an effective group and to meet our mission, principles, and goals we will need to work hard. But our efforts will not go unnoticed. We will strive to unseat politicians who aren’t representing us and our concerns in Washington, DC. We will track our representatives and legislative bills and constantly remind those representatives that we are aware of how they are voting and what their positions are.

See below for the "Roles and Responsibilities" of the teams, one of which you will be working with. Which will you enjoy working in the most? Which team do you have the best skill set for?

The teams are:

Roles & Responsibilities of Teams

(PROPOSED AT 2-24-2017 GENERAL MEETING)

To be an effective group and to meet our mission, principles, and goals we will need to work hard. But our efforts will not go unnoticed. We will strive to unseat politicians who aren’t representing us and our concerns in Washington, DC. We will track our representatives and legislative bills and constantly remind those representatives that we are aware of how they are voting and what their positions are.

I. Tracking, Researching, Legislation/Rapid Response;

Tracking/Researching Legislation/Rapid Response Lead (1-2 People) will be needed to lead this team. Lead(s) will be responsible for, researching and tracking legislative bills and votes. This will be essential to the group being effective in responding to legislation that affects us all. Lead(s) will be responsible for researching and tracking bills from their introduction to their final disposition or vote.

A. Team members will be responsible for tracking legislation from various sources e.g. GovTrack.us, votesmart.org, Congress.gov, media, and other sources to alert the group as to initial introduction of a bill; sponsoring; co-sponsoring; and movement of any kind such as the bill is out of committee.

B. Team members will be responsible for tracking local, state, and federal, legislation so appropriate action can be taken, including, but not limited to, a Call-To-Action (CTA,) collaboration with other Indivisible groups, or a Rapid Response is executed.

C. Team members will be responsible for writing a summary, or provide the summary offered by one of the websites, to be used in a CTA, posts on our social media sites, and our website. Summary shall include list of Co-Sponsors along with the bill Sponsor. It shall show the party affiliation, state, and district (if it is a bill introduced in the U. S. House of Representatives) of each representative that is sponsoring of co-sponsoring the bill.

D. Team members will be responsible for preparing a position paper that we will send to our Representatives, U.S. Senators for bills initiated in the senate and U.S. Congressperson for bills initiated in the House of Representatives, and so forth. These position papers will also be used as suggested context for members when they contact their representatives.

E. Team members will be responsible for preparing Call-To-Actions (CTA’s) for the Group Coordination team to approve and send out to members as a blind carbon copy (Bcc) in an email in a timely manner. The CTA’s shall contain links so that new members shall be told how to find and contact their representatives at the local, state, and federal level, as applicable.

F. For Rapid Responses, once approved, send the CTA shall be forwarded to other Indivisible groups that we are collaborating with.

G. Post approved material to our social media accounts in a timely manner.

H. Team members will be responsible for maintaining a list of current legislation that the group is tracking and present it 1 week prior to the monthly general meeting.

II. Tracking; Representatives Schedules, Events, and Availability

Tracking; Representatives, Schedules, Events, and Availability, Lead(s) shall maintain tracking on Local, State, and Federal elected representatives. Our U.S. Senators, U.S. Congressmen/women, NYS Governor, State Senators, Legislators, and Assemblymen/women, shall be tracked to establish a calendar for each, showing public appearances and event dates, when they are in their respective chambers, and any event that may be of interest to our group that would create an opportunity to make our representatives know our concerns and to thank them for representing us when they do the right thing.

A. Team members will collaborate with the Tracking, Researching, Legislation/Rapid Response team members as to when representatives are in session. Team members will track a representative as to when they are in Washington, DC, Albany, NY, as to any events other than when they are in chambers.

B. Team members will monitor and track when a representative is in his or her district and every event on their calendar with dates, times and locations.

C. Team members will maintain and publish a master calendar, with information on all representatives in our districts and update it regularly, that reflects all events, on all representative’s schedules, including social events.

D. Team members will obtain as much information as they can on any event the representative is going to attend as to dates, times, and purpose. Whether it is an event that press is expected to be at, and the amount of coverage expected. Team members will collaborate with the Social Media/Technology/Media and Branding team.

E. Team members will be responsible for scheduling our groups visits to our Member of Congress’ office, or other representative’s offices, attendance at town hall events, etc. These scheduled visits and attendance at events by the group shall be noted on the master calendar.

III. Membership/Recruitment;

Membership/Recruitment Lead(s) (1-2 people) will be responsible for recruiting new members and maintaining the current database of volunteers, their contact information and their roles and responsibilities.

A. The primary responsibility of this team is to increase our membership, keeping in mind that we are committed to building a diverse group of members including those who are most affected by the racist, authoritarian, and corrupt, agenda of mainly the Republican party and Donald Trump. The groups most affected are, but are not limited to, minorities, women, lower-income constituents, LGBTQ and others.

B. Members on this team will seek out and meet with other community leaders and organizations that will assist us in working toward the desired group we strive to achieve.

C. Members of this team will attend events that community organizations host to make people in the community aware of our mission, goals and principles to resist the oligarchy and authoritarian regime that now has control of all three branches of government and 32 State Legislatures. Team members may invite the same community leaders to speak at our meetings and/or press conferences.

D. Team members will be responsible for processing requests of people asking to join our group through all avenues including, but not limited to, filling out the “contact form” on our website, email, other social media pages, and any other avenues where a request to join comes in from. Team members will initiate “New Member Questionnaires” being completed, adding new members to the roster/database, and adding new members to our confidential email group through which information is disseminated to members via a Bcc.

E. Team members will follow-up with prospective members throughout the process of joining our group, answering all inquiries accurately, reflecting the groups mission, principles, and goals. Team members will obtain accurate information from qualified members of our group if not completely sure of a given position of our group. Example; Team member is asked “I would like to work on the “Membership/Recruitment Team” but am not familiar with how to work on an Excel Worksheet, is there anyone who can offer help with learning how to do that? The team member, if not sure, could communicate with our “Social Media/Technology/Media and Branding team and ask if this type help is available. They would find out that we have members willing to teach other members how to perform these specific tasks, and would then relay that information to the prospective member, thus providing an accurate response.

IV. Social Media/Technology/Media and Branding;

Social Media/Technology/Media and Branding Lead (2-3 people) is responsible for coordinating our group’s outreach to the media and presence on social media (i.e. Twitter, Facebook). Furthermore Lead(s) will be responsible for creating and nurturing relationships with media personnel. Leads will develop protocols for assisting other members with using programs i.e. Excel Worksheets and social media functions. Leads will maintain our website and optimize it creating articles and keeping us current. Leads will accept and peruse articles from members for possible placement on our website, blog, and social media pages. Leads will encourage and/or write Op-Eds and Letters to the Editor to the local press.

A. Responsibilities of team members includes maintaining and updating our social media pages including;

B. Team members will tutor other members of the group how to access, post, and generally use our social media pages.

C. Team members will coordinate with our Events Manager to prepare signs, and obtain appropriate press coverage of an event.

D. Team members will update our website and our blog with current material to maintain appropriate branding of our group and portraying a positive image in the community. The website and blog should have pictures, videos and coverage of any events we host, or attend, as soon as possible after an event occurs.

E. Team members shall make the group aware of any press coverage expected, produced, or published in a timely manner, or in preparation of an event.

F. Team members will be responsible for monitoring any press the group receives. Responsible for tracking news about your Members of Congress and any major Congressional issues/decisions, as well as local, state, and federal elected officials.

V. Group Coordination;

Overall Group Management Lead(s) (1-2 people); and the Founder is responsible for coordination of the group. Responsible for scheduling group meetings, coordinating communication between teams, and leading the group in planning and strategy for implementation of our goals, principles and mission. Responsible for overseeing team’s performance, press generated, and the overall image of the group as portrayed in the community and the press.

A. Team members are responsible for setting meetings, organizing dates, times, locations and logistics of meeting places.

B. Team members are responsible for setting the agenda of meetings and disseminating information to all members prior to meetings taking place.

C. Team members are responsible for clear communication between teams for collaboration on projects, and the flow of information to members.

D. Team members are responsible for disseminating information to all members for anything pertaining to group business via the “Closed Facebook Group Page” and the “Confidential” email group via a Bcc.

E. Team members are responsible for the strategic planning and strategy for organizing and overseeing all defensive action on local, statewide, congressional and federal elected officials taken by the group.

F. Team members are responsible for setting our Mission, Principles, and Values, as agreed upon by the members, and for adherence to same.

G. Team members are responsible for approving press releases and any other planned content that is to be published to the public and press, prior to its release.

H. Team members are responsible for any fundraising, or other financial actions that may occur.

I. Team members are ultimately responsible for record keeping of the group.

VI. Electoral Research and Outreach;

Electoral Research and Outreach Lead(s) (1-2 people) shall be responsible for team researching local, State, U.S. Congressional and U.S. Senate districts as to their representatives, representatives contact information, Indivisible groups within their districts, and demographics as well as other pertinent information that may persuade voters in those districts i.e. industry, large employers, etc. and creating a confidential “Master Database.” Lead(s) shall make all members of the team familiar with protocols for creating and publishing a Call To Action and a Rapid Response.

A. Team members are responsible for creating a “Master Database.” The database shall be maintained by this teams members and only accessible to this teams members and the group management team and otherwise considered confidential. The database shall be called the “Patchogue is Indivisible-Confidential-Master Database for CTA and Rapid Responses”

B. Team members are responsible for obtaining and inputting current information on all fifty states. Information will include, for each state, elected Congressmen/women, U.S. Senators and Governors with their party affiliation. Each states information will also include all indivisible groups within the state and the groups email address. A query shall be created for use in a “Rapid Response” or a “Call to Action” (CTA) and that query, for each state shall be published on a printed list and available to this team and group management.

C. Team members shall enter into the Master Database all local, State, Congressional and U.S. Senate districts within New York State along with each district’s elected officials with party affiliation. Also, noted in each districts makeup shall be all Indivisible groups names with their email addresses. Furthermore, demographics, dominant industry, large employers, etc. shall be included in the districts information. A query shall be established so that a report can be published for a CTA or Rapid Response.

D. Team members shall be responsible for setting up an “email group” for each state, in Google Contacts and shall be called “Patchogue is Indivisible-Confidential-CTA and Rapid Response Email Group For (State two letter postal designation).” Each email group shall have the email address for each Indivisible group in the state for which it is made. The email group shall be updated, if possible, just prior to a CTA or Rapid Response being generated.

E. The “Master Database” shall only be accessible to this team and the “Group Management” team and otherwise considered confidential, and not be shared without the expressed written consent of group management.

F. Team members shall compile information on the makeup of U.S. Congressional Districts, U.S. Senate districts as they pertain to ethnicity, industry, and political preference including election data.

G. Team members, for nationwide campaigns and issues, shall create one email group containing all fifty state email groups so an email blast can be sent to all Indivisible groups nationwide.

H. Team members shall compile election data from past election data from all congressional, state, and nationwide elections for all congressional, state senate, and/or state legislature elections for the past 10 years. The group names of any Indivisible groups shall be included with the data.

VII. Event Organizing and Collaboration.

Event Organizing and Collaboration Lead (1-2 people) including an “Event Manager” shall be responsible for initiating, organizing, and collaborating events not only within our group but with other organizations and groups that we collaborate with.

A. Team members are responsible for creating, organizing, and collaborating within our group as well as with other groups and organizations that our group has agreed to collaborate with.

B. Team members will work closely with other teams within our group to assure that press, signage, goals of event, social media, and safety is maximized.

C. Teams members will ascertain whether any permissions or permits are needed for any events are required, and obtain any that are required.

D. Team members are responsible for publishing an “Events Protocol” for each event that details safety, logistics, i.e. where members should park, clothing (light colored for nighttime events,) sign suggestions, what the groups goals are for the event, etc.
